Papillon’s are lively, friendly and alert small dogs.
If you see the photo above, you won’t realize it but it will provide a clue as to why these dogs are called Papillon. The reason being that Papillon means “butterfly” in French, a reference to their butterfly-like ears.
This breed comes in a handful of colors and were first bred in the early 1900s. They are very active dogs and while they don’t require much in terms of grooming since they don’t have an undercoat, they shed more than other dogs like the Yorkshire Terrier.
